Woodland Habitat Restoration
Over the years the Trust has developed projects focusing on regenerating ancient woodlands, creating riparian (riverside) woodlands, conserving and expanding juniper scrub, planting farm hedges and planting new native woodlands. All of these projects contribute towards the restoration of the native woodland habitat in the south of Scotland.
The Trust manages over 50 sites and 2000 ha of land in partnership with local landowners, farmers and estates. This land is predominantly recently planted young woodland together with existing mature woodlands which have been regenerated through the Trust's work. The sites are dispersed across the Scottish Borders and into Dumfriesshire, as shown on this map with a core area around the upper Ettrick and Yarrow valleys where many of the plantings link to create networks of woodland habitat.
