This crab apple tree with its distinctive crown shape is estimated to be 150 years old and is the largest of its kind in Scotland. Formerly part of a hedgerow, it now grows inside the field boundary.

Access

You can view the tree is from the public footpath, accessed either off St Cuthbert's Way (turn right approximately 1km south of Mertoun Bridge) or from the road to Benrig Cemetery (turn left onto the signed public footpath approximately 300 m after the turning off the B6404 leaving St Boswells. The farmer is happy for you to view the tree from the footpath but please do not enter the field - it is a working farm with livestock often in the field.
