This Silver Fir, located at the east side of the gardens, is one of the oldest of its kind surviving in Britain. It was planted in Dawyck in 1680, having been introduced to Britain from the mountains of Europe. Since then the species has become less favoured for planting, pushed out by the 19th century introductions of tree species from North America.
