Archaeology
There is one archaeological site of interest on the floodplain in the Ettrick Marshes identified by Historic Scotland - the Hut Circles. Hut circles were a type of settlement first used in the early bronze age (4000 years ago) and continued for be used until the middle ages. The remains of these hut circles are found on the Hut Circle route just north of boardwalk over the open water. The exact date of the circles in the Ettrick Marshes is unknown but the site is of interest as there are few settlement sites of prehistoric or early medieval periods know in the Ettrick and Yarrow valleys. The Hut Circle are kept free of trees and will remain unplanted.
